"First open mic went better than I could have hoped for, I was a nervous wreak but all my jokes got laughs. Only messed up my shortest joke."

Nora Boyle replied to Parker Edward Postyeni's discussion Suggestion for first open mic.
"Well, my experience is that you should have a set of jokes, related or not, but importantly, remember them... that way, if they are out of order, then it doesn't seem obvious... practice, practice, practice."

"HOW much time are you going to get at the open mic? Its hard to establish any kind of flow if its only 5 minutes- if it is 5 minutes take a few bits are go for it- An open mic is where you hone your material so you dont have to really worry about…"

"Alright, that's more or less the kind of answer I was looking for, so flow is more important than just picking the gems. Which was the way I was leaning but wanted advice from those wiser than me first."

"  We all have a good pool of material to work with and you are no different with 30 minutes plus. What I was trying to say was take a connectable group of 3-5 minutes out of your 30 and work it for your first gig. Then on your…"

Mathew Bergin replied to Parker Edward Postyeni's discussion Suggestion for first open mic.
"Take your material 3-5 minutes at a time. Group things together that have common premise and remember it’s a process. Present and refine until you have thirty minutes of killer material that will work every time. When is your first gig?"

"considering most open mics give a new standup 3-5 minutes, my personal opinion is, do what you are comfortable with. Then again, i'm new."

I have at least 30 minutes of untested material and was wondering if I should stick to a central theme with my jokes or just take what I feel to be the cream of the crop. The theme I would go for is the difficulty I have meeting woman (I feel that is a relate able subject.)
